General Social Care Council (GSCC): Now Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
British Standards (BSI): the worlds first national standards-making body (NSB) and is number one in the world today. BSI provides publications and consults on new and existing standards of all types.http://www.bsi-global.com/
Care Quality Commission: Their aim is to make sure better care is provided for everyone, whether that’s in hospital, in care homes, in people’s own homes, or elsewhere.
They regulate health and adult social care services, whether provided by the NHS, local authorities, private companies or voluntary organisations. And, they protect the rights of people detained under the Mental Health Act. http://www.cqc.org.uk/
Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS): is an organisation set up to enable a standardised H&S evaluation and appraisal of contractors working in all fields throughout the UK. Contractors who listed under the CHAS system have reached at least a minimum standard of H&S compliance and have a working H&S management system. http://www.chas.gov.uk/
Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH): is a professional, awarding and campaigning body at the forefront of environmental and public health. Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG): replaced ODPM with a powerful remit to promote community cohesion and equality, as well as responsibility for housing, urban regeneration, planning and local government. Disability Rights Commission (DRC): Equality The Disability Rights Commission (DRC) closed in September 2007. Its responsibility for helping secure civil rights for disabled people has transferred to the new Equality and Human Rights Commission which opened for business in 1 October 2007 http://www.equalityhumanrights.com/

Food Standards Agency (FSA): an independent Government department set up by an Act of Parliament in 2000 to protect the public's health and consumer interests in relation to food. The FSA provides advice and information to the public and Government on food safety from farm to fork, nutrition and diet. Health Protection Agency (HPA): an independent body that protects the health and well-being of the population. The Agency plays a critical role in protecting people from infectious diseases and in preventing harm when hazards involving chemicals, poisons or radiation occur. Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA): enhance and safeguard the health of the public by ensuring that medicines and medical devices work and are acceptably safe. National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE): is an independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance on promoting good health and preventing and treating ill health. http://www.nice.org.uk/
National Institute for Mental Health in England (NIMHE): an NHS (Department of Health) website, NIMHE is responsible for supporting the implementation of positive change in mental health and mental health services. NIMHE is part of the Care Services Improvement Partnership, There are eight development centres, through which the majority of the work is delivered. Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC): an organisation set up by Parliament to protect the public, by ensuring that nurses and midwives provide high standards of care to their patients and clients. http://www.nmc-uk.org/

Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE): The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) was established by Government in 2001 to improve social care services for adults and children in the United Kingdom.
